This Week in the Classroom

This week in computer class (May 11th, 12th, and 14th) we started to learn about designing and creating webpages. We've discussed a few of the basic concepts and a language called HTML. By learning the basics of HTML we can understand how webpages are created.

After discussing a few basic tags, we looked at example webpages to study what makes a good design. Students identified graphics, text organization, backgrounds, layout, etc. Then we worked with blank pieces of paper to make a plan for our webpage. It's important to have an idea of what it should look like.

Students can bring in pictures to include in their webpages. They are free to create their webpages as they want them, but they should include some text and a graphic. When webpages are complete and all materials have been gathered, we'll send them home so that parents can see what students want to post. Please take a look at what the students are designing and give them input.

This week in class we've searched the Internet for animal websites and, of course, the news. We've also worked on our magazine project, designing a Powerpoint presentation and writing articles on the 5th grade. The reading group presented their powerpoint projects to the class. The projects turned out very well!
