Some folks heard about me, and how I was good at taking people away from slavery. I was able to connect with some quiet Quaker people, who helped me a lot when passing through to move on. They would help us go to the next place where we could hide in the day. Their house was known as a "safe house." Once we left a plantation, we travelled at night. I had found a gun that I always carried with me. I never had to use it, but I almost did. There was a man, who got scared when we left his master's place. We got out before the overseer saw us, but that man got nervous, and shaking. He said that he wanted to go back. I was surprised that he said that he wanted to go back where he would be a slave, and where his family would be sold from him. But he was just nervous, and scared of the trip. I knew that he couldn't go back. If he did they would whip him till he told where we were hiding. So I took out my gun, and told him to get quiet and come. If he was not going to come, we did not want him to tell, so I told him that I would have to kill him. I was not going to let him tell the overseer where we were, because, the women, and children would have all been whipped. I was surprised, because he got real quiet, and never made any noise after that. I was glad, because I never had to use that gun, and I never wanted to hurt that man. I got my people free, and went back 19 times to take my people to Freedom on the Underground Railroad.
