I have writen the Secretary of the Maynard 
Arms Co. I wish to have the best articles for 
my men.


June 18

We have received more power and other ordnance 
this day with assurance there is more on the way. 


July 4

I is my birthday and a few of the Charleston 
Ladies have sent me gifts. Cakes and rice pudding. 
The Governor sent me a bottle of fine wine.


July 18

I received a letter from the Secretary of Maynard 
Arms Co. today. Stating "By sending your order to 
me you will be sure to receive a perfect article 
(rifle)." He also stated " Being from the north I 
hope that there will never be occasion for any 
ungracious use of fire arms by the people of our 
country." I'm sure he added this as an 
afterthought.
