THE EMANCIPATION PROCLAMATION

With the outcome of the Battle of Antietam I 
decided that it ‘s time to do something about 
the slaves.  Its been five days since the battle 
and I wrote a document that I feel is very 
important to the direction this country will 
take.  On September 22, 1863 I signed the 
Emancipation Proclamation.  "I believe that if 
my name goes into history, it will be for this 
act".

"All persons held as slaves in any state or 
designated part of a state; or the people 
whereof shall be in rebellion against the 
United States shall be then, henceforth and 
forever free".....

I feel that were fighting to not only preserve 
the Union but we’re fighting to free the slaves 
as well.  I also believe that this will add to 
our favor with Europe.  England and France will 
more than likely stay out of the war.
