March 8, 1862 Dear Major Grandpa, We were all so very happy to get your letter, and hear that you had arrived at Washington. First of all, I know that you must be worried about Pa since he shouls have joined up with you by now. Here's what happened..Pa and Old Moon were hunting turkeys and Pa found a beehive. While he was trying to get the honey, a small brown bear had the same idea. The little bear chasted Pa up a tree and was trying to climb up after Pa, but Old Moon was nip'in at his heels and I guess he ran off to find his mama. Pa was so scared the mama bear would show up that he fell out of the tree and broke an arm and a leg. I don't think that Pa will be going to the war anytime soon. Grandpa, do you remember my best friend LeAnn? Her brother Albert went back to Virginia to join up with the Army of the South. If you see him, tell him LeAnn is very worried. We had a real good harvest Grandpa. We have enough wheat, corn and beans to last the winter. My eyes are starting to close, so I will have to go to bed. All of the family sends love and prayers. Please be careful and come home soon Grandpa. All of our love, Angelica
