April 17, 1861 It is official - Virginia has joined the Confederacy. More importantly, General Robert E. Lee has refused Lincoln's offer to be the U.S.A's commanding general, and Lee even retired from the U.S. Army. He is a soldier that we will definitely need - a skilled man in battle, and a true gentleman. I am looking forward to working with Mr. Lee. It appears that with Virginia on our side, our capital will be moving - to a much better place - Richmond, Virginia. I am elated. I will be 90 miles away from the White House, where my adversary Mr. Lincoln is! This is going to be very interesting.
