Spring 1862 I wrote the governor today requesting my role in the preservation of this great union. I don't think my superiors at Bowdin will be very happy. I may not as well, but I feel that it is my duty. My grandfather and father before me fulfilled their roles in history and now it is my turn. I pray to the father almighty that my contribution will be an honorable one. At times such as this, one MUST stand for what he believes in! Now, live or die, I must do my duty. JLC
